We were all so excited the day the car was to be delivered, Seren was even up at 5am, 2 1/2 hours earlier than normal (aggghhh), when the doorbell finally rang I couldn't wait to go out and have a nose. Seren greeted the car like she was petting a very large bald dog with a number of firm pats on the window and a look of sheer delight on her cheeky face.My first thoughts were how much it didn't look like a people carrier. I have always said how I hate people carriers, they are bulky, clumsy looking and anyone who owns one must have given up on life. The Meriva is not like this at all, it looks sporty (a bit like an SUV) it has modern angles and stylish touches with glass and chrome. Stepping inside I was greated by a tonne of gadgets like sat nav, cruise control, bluetooth and parking sensors. I couldn't wait to take it out for a spin. Our first outing was to the local town to our Wednesday afternoon baby group, as I pulled up there was a chorus of oooh's and aaah's from all my mummy friends, they couldn't wait to look around and test out the funky flex-doors, and there was me thinking they were just pleased to see us.I can't believe after just a few hours that I was already falling for the car. There are so many things, big and small that made me feel like the car was designed just for our family. The flex-doors are a dream coupled with the higher position of the car and the long seatbelts, it is just so easy to fit Seren's car seat. It is usually such a struggle to angle her seat correctly to get it through the door and into the chair, then having to bend over and contort my body over the seat to struggle to do up the buckle. But in the Meriva the seat slotted in easily and I didn't even have to bend down to get the belt across. There is so much room in the back I can even slot my changing bag in the footwell in front of Seren instead of dumping it on the passenger seat as normal. The car came into it's own on Thursday. We took a trip to London for our first ever family portrait session. I normally hate the 70 minute drive down to London but it is such an easy car to drive the time and miles flew by. The Sat nav got us to the correct location and it even updated us on congestion, road works and collisions along the way. The seats were both comfortable and supportive not only for my back but my legs too, it was the same for Rob which is a great achievement as i'm only 5 foot 6 but he is a massive 6 foot 4. The panoramic sunroof helped us make the most of the gorgeous weather and the two little thumb rests on the steering wheel are a fantastic touch. I usually get so nervous when the traffic builds up the closer you get to the capital, but the higher position gave me such a good view I could see exactly where I and all the other drivers were. The back seat was even big enough for an unscheduled bum change in a layby halfway up the A11 on the way home! It's going to be a very interesting two weeks...
