Well, here we go.So the first big step is over - stopping contraception. For me this was not anything major as I had the implant and never really had the daily routine of taking the pill or remembering to get the injection as most women do. Surprisingly though I had my first period the very next day and after two years of freedom this turned out to be a bit of a shock. It seems an age since I had to buy a box of tampons and for some reason I still get that teenage feeling of embarrassment when the (male) cashier passes it over the scanner and I hear the deafening BEEP as the spotty youth tries desperately to avoid eye contact. The next step was timing my ovulation. I've not yet invested in any ovulation tests as I think this a complete waste of money unless we have been trying for at least six months. I am still relatively young (mid twenties) so there is no rush to fall pregnant, but hopefully the time will come by the end of this year. So I used the ovulation calculator on Gurgle to find my peak time. I found this somewhat reassuring as if the speedy calculation made by the computer was a prediction of how quickly I could conceive. There I was thinking I would definitely be up the duff within the next few weeks. So I've got my ovulation date, my folic acid in hand and a rather eager boyfriend, all set and ready to breed.Step three, sex This is the easy part, not really much to say here as I am sure nobody wants to know the ins and outs but lets just say we had fun experimenting with the different positions for optimum results. Rob is definitely in his element most mornings, Im not really a morning person but have now become accustomed to being woken with a nudge by what he calls his 'stoinker.' Mature, I know. Now obviously I know that a pregnancy test is not going to tell me I'm pregnant two days after I've stopped ovulating but I was mooching about the house at the weekend and curiosity got the better of me.TEST 1 - NEGATIVE. Quite right too, I'm not a fruit fly after all. I was not in the least bit disappointed at this as it is far too early, what I was disappointed at was the arrival of my period the next day, seventeen days between the two. Great, another trip to the shops ( I really should buy in bulk.) Shameful nod hello to the spotty cashier, who, by the way, appears to have had the same idea of buying in bulk and has spritzed himself in a bucket-load of Joop aftershave. Then back home to spend the evening with the bastard period pains. So here I am, at the beginning of what I hope to be a wonderful, stress free and life changing journey. All the best to the other ladies out there trying for their own little bundles of joy, feel free to add me as a friend as I know I'm definitely going to need lots of advice and support along the way. By the way, i've heard some ones got their hands on some 'baby dust?' Any of it going spare let me know. Thanks Janine.
